"The Queen Of My Soul"
Mr.701 goes into detail about his Mother, (Gloria a.k.a Lainey Baby). "It was tough witnessing a sweet, humble, beautiful woman in a paralyzed state, who fell prisoner to the disease called MS. She never complained, nor did she become cold-hearted because of her illness. She was as humble as one could be in that shape, which taught me how to make the best out of any situation that God puts before me. Besides God and me, her love for R&B music kept her content. Every morning, my grandmother or I, would turn her radio on her favorite station, and when a song came on that she liked, she would say, "I like that song boy!" That was my cue to turn it up, smiling as Donamyn recalls, she sometimes would get so tickled when i would sing one of her favorite songs. Making her smile was a blessing to me. Everyday she would say " I love you boy, and I want you to finish school." Education was a big thing with her, and at the time, I was just ready to get through high school. She graduated from SJHS, and she attended the local college to pursuit a degree in business. She got sick when Donamyn was only a toddler and had to stop going to college. Bed ridden until 09/12/06, she got tired of fighting MS, so she went to her final home. Her last words on this earth were "I love my boy..", Jesus finally got His bride, mommy dance with em' " is what I put on her tombstone ( pictured below). Jo Donamyn (Mr.701) was determined not to let his mother "die" in vain, and he is currently enrolled at the same college pursuing an associate's degree. Hopefully, this will lead to a bachelors degree in business Administration. UPDATE, Donamyn graduated with that business degree(blog)!
Surviving a gunshot to the head

On Christmas Eve, 2007, Donamyn Grace was shot point blank range after a long day of Christmas shopping. He usually would have stayed home with "at the time" girlfriend, but instead, he decided to hang out at a relative's house. He was shot around 12:15 am, and had to report to work as a shift leader at 6a.m. He was airlifted to the best trauma physicians in the state at Pitt County Memorial in Greenville, NC.
Determined to live, he stayed in the hospital for 5 weeks and came home. He explains, " the first words he heard when he became conscious , was the most contented male voice he had ever heard in his life." The voice simply said, "do you believe in me now ?" Unaware of where he was, and what was going on, Donamyn knew from that day forth, that there is a God! He also recalls, " before he got shot, he cursed at God out of anger for taking his mother away from him. Stating, "I basically said in Creole, F you blah blah blah, and in return, God definitely showed me who runs the show. I repent everyday for my foolish behavior and the way I acted towards the Most High."
Mr.701 elaborates on his first weeks home, calling it a good and bad karma kind of thing. "So 5 weeks passed, and I came home, thinking I was going to have the best support system ever, boy did I have a rude awaking when I got home! Believe it or not, everyone I associated with, turned their backs on me. Me?? The one that was the first person anyone would call when they either needed something, or needed someone to defend for them. You would be surprised on how many people rock with you when you're the coolest guy on the planet, and on top of your game, but as soon as you hit rock bottom, it's a whole different ball game! I said it best in my track called "Turn Around," the harder my downfall is, the higher that I bounce back!" I know they feel some type of way now that I'm back on my feet. I didn't lose anything, but a bunch of fake friends. I call them "frenemies," laughing out loud. I inspire people with my words as well as I do with my music. I've been in 80% of every situation that a man could possibly be in, and I still come out on top. I make music for the the go getters, the underdogs, and the ones who have been through a lot and who are still standing. But don't get it misconstrued, I also make music for the chopper shooters, moreless: than chopper totters."
He also explains, how he saw things that the human kind couldn't even imagine. "I died, more or less; and rose from my grave to come back for my children." He then asks, "does this sound familiar? You see, you have God, Jesus, and Donamyn. I was nowhere near a saint, so I may very well be that beast. Whatever God intended me to be, I am he." Some people say it was luck, but I say it was a blessing, and I'm highly favored. Others say, "it is very believable, that Jo Donamyn is the one! "
